Creating a Contract
When you click New Contract, xClause presents three paths. Choose the one that fits the work you are doing.
The three starting points
Smart Builder (Recommended)
Describe the deal in a plain sentence — for example, "Monthly managed services for Acme IT, 50 endpoints, 12-month term" — and the AI drafts a contract for you. You review and edit before sending.
Smart Builder is available when your account has the Quick Builder feature enabled. If you do not see it on the chooser screen, your plan or account may not have it active yet.
For a full walkthrough, see Using the Smart Builder.
Standard Contract
A form-based flow for creating a conventional contract. This path also covers Master Service Agreements (MSAs) — select the appropriate template type during setup.
Steps:
- Click Standard Contract on the chooser screen.
- Select a template from the list available to your account.
- Choose the client from your client list and fill in the required fields (dates, payment schedule, custom terms, and so on).
- Add or adjust clauses as needed and preview the result.
- Save the draft, then send it for signature when ready.
Statement of Work
Use this path to create a SOW with deliverables, timelines, and managed-service line items. The SOW builder has its own dedicated sections for scoped services and pricing.
For a full walkthrough, see Creating a Statement of Work.
After the contract is created
- Send for e-signature — see Sending a Contract for Signature.
- Require internal approval before sending — see Contract Approvals.
- Upload an existing contract — see Importing a Contract.
