Ingram Micro integration

What it does

The Ingram Micro integration lets xClause search the Ingram Micro product catalog and show you Ingram Micro pricing while you build documents. It is lookup-only.

  • Invoice item search. On an invoice, the Search distributors box and the Search distributors dialog return matching products with a price. Click a result to add it as an invoice item.
  • SOW product import. SOW product import has a Hardware Distributors source. It searches your connected distributors and returns matching products as one-time product lines you can choose from. Imported prices are a snapshot taken at search time. They do not update later.
  • Item details. For each result, xClause shows the product name, model number, description, SKU, availability text, and price. It also fills in RAM, storage, graphics, processor, and generation when it can find them in the product text. These details come from text matching, so they can be missing or wrong. Check them before you send a document.

xClause does not place orders with Ingram Micro, and it does not write anything to your Ingram Micro account.

Before you start

In xClause

  • Your plan must include integrations. The Integrations settings page is not available on the MSP Starter plan. If your plan does not include it, xClause sends you to billing instead. Your company can also have integrations switched on by xClause as an override.
  • You must belong to the MSP company you are connecting.

At Ingram Micro

  • You need an Ingram Micro Client ID and Client Secret. xClause authenticates with these using the OAuth client-credentials flow.
  • xClause's connect form says to sign up for Ingram Micro API access, create an API application in Ingram Micro's developer portal, and take the Client ID and Client Secret from it.

Connect

  1. In xClause, open Settings, then Integrations.
  2. In the Distributors group, open Ingram Micro.
  3. Click Connect to Ingram Micro.
  4. Enter your Client ID (required).
  5. Enter your Client Secret (required).
  6. Leave API Base URL (Optional) as it is unless Ingram Micro gave you a different address for your account.
  7. Click Connect.

xClause requests an access token from Ingram Micro with your credentials before it saves anything. If Ingram Micro does not issue a token, the connection is not saved and you see an error (see Troubleshooting).

After a successful connect, the card shows a Connected since date and a Hardware lookups status of Enabled. To change credentials later, click Update connection, enter the new values, and click Connect.

Permissions / access

The Ingram Micro credentials need access to the three Ingram Micro API endpoints below. xClause makes no other calls to Ingram Micro.

Ingram Micro endpointWhat xClause doesRead or write
POST /oauth/tokenExchanges your Client ID and Client Secret for an access token. Runs when you connect and at the start of each lookup.Authentication only
GET /catalog/v1/products (searched by keyword)Searches the catalog for the words you typed.Read-only
GET /pricing/v1/pricing (by SKU)Looks up the price for each product the search returned.Read-only

xClause only reads catalog, pricing, and availability data from Ingram Micro. It never places or changes orders.

What syncs

Nothing is synced in bulk. xClause does not import the Ingram Micro catalog or keep a copy of it.

Details of how a search behaves:

  • xClause sends your search text to Ingram Micro and uses the first products returned, up to the number the screen asks for.
  • A product appears only if Ingram Micro returns a price above zero for it. Products with no price, or a zero price, are dropped.
  • The price shown is the customer price Ingram Micro returns for your account. If there is none, xClause uses the retail price.
  • Invoice search results can also include results from other connected distributors and from Google Shopping. Each result carries a source label, and results are sorted by price, lowest first, by default.
  • When xClause looks for a single cheapest item, it tries Ingram Micro first and stops there if Ingram Micro returns a result.
  • Items you add to an invoice or SOW are copies. Later price changes at Ingram Micro do not change them.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Ingram Micro rejected the credentials (HTTP code**)**Ingram Micro's token endpoint refused your Client ID and Client Secret.Re-check both values for typos or extra spaces. Confirm they are active in Ingram Micro, and that the API Base URL is correct if you changed it.
Ingram Micro did not return an access tokenIngram Micro answered but did not include a token.Confirm your API application is approved and active with Ingram Micro, then try again.
Could not reach Ingram Micro (or a network error message)xClause could not connect to the API Base URL.Check the API Base URL. If it is correct, wait and retry.
Company ID, Client ID, and Client Secret are requiredA required field was empty.Fill in Client ID and Client Secret.
Failed to connect to Ingram MicroUnexpected error on the xClause side while saving.Try again. If it keeps happening, contact xClause support.
We couldn't load your Ingram Micro connection status.xClause could not read the status. The message says this is not a verdict on the connection.Click Try again.
Credentials are incomplete. The stored credentials are missing something. Lookups stay off.Click Update connection and re-enter both values.
Hardware lookups are switched off.The connection is stored but paused.Click Update connection to switch lookups back on.
No matching hardware. Try a different model or keyword. (invoice search)No source returned a priced result.Try a more specific model number or keyword.
We couldn't reach the hardware catalog — check your connection and search again. The search request to xClause failed.Check your connection and search again.

Lookup problems after you are connected are not shown as errors. If Ingram Micro rejects a token request, the search or pricing call fails, or the saved credentials cannot be read back, xClause skips Ingram Micro and you simply see no Ingram Micro results. If Ingram Micro results stop appearing, click Update connection and re-enter your credentials.

The Connected badge on the card means credentials are stored and lookups are on. xClause does not test the credentials again after you connect.

Disconnecting

  1. Open Settings, then Integrations, then Ingram Micro.
  2. Click Disconnect.
  3. Confirm the prompt: "Are you sure you want to disconnect from Ingram Micro? This will remove all integration settings."

Disconnecting deletes the stored connection from xClause, including your Client ID, encrypted Client Secret, and API Base URL. Ingram Micro results stop appearing in searches. Items you already added to invoices or SOWs stay as they are. Disconnecting does not revoke anything in your Ingram Micro account. To revoke the credentials, do that at Ingram Micro.
