IT Glue integration
IT Glue integration
What it does
The IT Glue integration connects xClause to your IT Glue account with an IT Glue API key. It is read-only: xClause never creates or changes anything in IT Glue.
- Imports IT Glue organizations as xClause clients. You choose which organizations to import, and which of their contacts become client users, from the Manage panel on the integration card.
- Keeps imported clients current. When you click Sync now, xClause refreshes the clients you have already imported, and their sites (IT Glue locations) if site sync is on.
- Counts devices per client. IT Glue configurations are available as a device-count source when you import line items into a SOW. This is off until you turn on IT Glue as a source under your SOW integration settings.
Sync never creates new xClause clients on its own. An IT Glue organization only becomes an xClause client when you select it in Manage. There is no scheduled sync: IT Glue data refreshes only when you click Sync now.
Before you start
In xClause
- You need a plan that includes PSA integrations. If yours does not, connecting fails with an upgrade message. The Free and MSP Starter plans do not include them.
- The Integrations settings page is not available on the MSP Starter plan unless your account has been given integrations access. In that case opening Settings > Integrations sends you to the billing page.
- You must be signed in as a user who belongs to your MSP company. The connect action checks company membership only. It does not check for an admin role.
In IT Glue
- An IT Glue API key (see below).
- Your IT Glue subdomain: the first part of your IT Glue address. For
https://your-company.itglue.com, it isyour-company. - Your IT Glue region: US, EU or AU.
Connect
IT Glue lives under Settings > Integrations, on the IT Glue tile (category PSA & RMM).
-
In IT Glue, go to Account Settings > API Keys.
-
Click Generate Key, or copy an existing key.
-
Make sure the key can read the areas listed under Permissions below.
-
In xClause, open Settings > Integrations and open the IT Glue tile.
-
Click Connect to IT Glue.
-
Fill in the fields:
Field What to enter API Key (required) The key from step 2. Subdomain (required) Your subdomain only, for example your-company. xClause adds.itglue.com.Region US (api.itglue.com), EU (api.eu.itglue.com) or AU (api.au.itglue.com). The default is US. -
Click Connect. xClause saves the key (encrypted) and tests it by reading one organization from IT Glue. On success you see IT Glue connected.
To change the key, subdomain or region later, click Update connection on the card and submit the form again.
To choose what to import:
- On the connected card, find Clients & users and click Manage. The drawer lists every IT Glue organization; nothing is imported until you tick it.
- Expand an organization and tick Import this org as a client.
- For its contacts, choose Import everyone, select individual people, or choose no users.
- Save your choices.
Permissions the API key needs
xClause authenticates every request with your API key. Every call it makes to IT Glue is a read.
| IT Glue area | What xClause does there | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Organizations | Tests the connection. Lists organizations in Manage. Reads each organization's name, address and phone during import and sync. | Read |
| Contacts | Reads each imported organization's contacts, for the Manage panel and for the users you chose to import. | Read |
| Locations | Reads each imported organization's locations as client sites, when Sync sites from IT Glue is on. | Read |
| Configurations | Reads each imported organization's configurations during sync, and for the SOW device-count import. | Read |
xClause makes no create, update or delete calls to IT Glue from the interface.
What syncs, and which direction
All data flows from IT Glue to xClause.
| What | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Organization list | You open Manage |
| A new client, its sites and the contacts you chose | You import an organization in Manage |
| Name, address, city, state, ZIP, phone and website of imported clients | Sync now |
| Contacts of imported clients, as chosen in Manage | Sync now |
| Sites (IT Glue locations) | Sync now, when Sync sites from IT Glue is on |
| Device counts for SOW line items | You import line items into a SOW with IT Glue as the source |
Settings on the card:
- Sync organizations from IT Glue must stay on. Turning it off pauses Sync now entirely.
- Sync sites from IT Glue controls whether locations are imported as sites.
- Sync contacts from IT Glue does not decide which contacts are imported. That is controlled per organization in Manage.
- Sync documentation from IT Glue has no effect. xClause does not import IT Glue documentation.
Things to know before you import:
- Matching existing clients. When you import an organization, xClause first looks for one of your existing clients with the same name. If it finds one, it updates that client instead of creating a new one.
- Overwritten fields. Importing or syncing overwrites a client's name, address, city, state, ZIP, phone and website with the IT Glue values. Where IT Glue has no value, the xClause value is kept.
- Tax ID. xClause stores the IT Glue organization ID in the client's Tax ID field, and uses it to match the client on later syncs. Editing that field breaks the link to IT Glue.
Troubleshooting
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Enter both your API key and subdomain to connect. | Fill in both fields. |
| Failed to connect to IT Glue. Please check your API key and subdomain. | xClause could not read from IT Glue with these details. Check the key, the subdomain (without .itglue.com) and the region. |
| Invalid region. Must be US, EU, or AU | Choose a region from the list. |
| An upgrade message when connecting | Your plan does not include PSA integrations. Upgrade, or contact support. |
| IT Glue integration is disabled | The last connection test failed, so syncing is paused. Click Update connection and reconnect. |
| Sync completed - no changes needed. Use Manage to choose which IT Glue organizations to import. | Nothing is imported yet. Open Manage and import the organizations you want. |
| Sync completed with N errors. Check console for details. | Some items failed. The details are in your browser's developer console. Run Sync now again; if errors persist, contact support with the messages from the console. |
| We couldn't sync with IT Glue — check your connection and try again. | Try again. If it keeps failing, click Update connection to re-test your key. |
Disconnecting
- On the IT Glue card, click Disconnect.
- Confirm Are you sure you want to disconnect from IT Glue? This will remove all integration settings.
Disconnecting deletes the IT Glue connection in xClause, including your stored API key and card settings. Clients, users and sites already imported stay in xClause. Nothing is deleted in IT Glue. To fully revoke access, also delete the API key in IT Glue.
